Belfius Bank and the “Secrétariat Général de l'Enseignement Catholique” (General Secretariat of Catholic Education, SeGEC) have just finalised a major investment programme to equip most Catholic free schools in Brussels and Wallonia with solar panels over the next four years.
Heating is provided entirely by geothermal heat pumps. De Droomboom will be the first school in the City of Brussels to be completely disconnected from the gas supply. and finally, there are plans to create a large, covered bicycle shelter. The City of Brussels obtained planning permission in September 2023.
Almost all of solar power in Belgium is grid connected. 2007 Installed capacity of solar power increased drastically after 2007. During 2009 the amount of solar installations quadrupled from 16,000 to 65,000.
